History
Winnipeg officially became a city in 1873, but fur traders came as early as 1738. Sieur de La Vérendrye built the first fur trading post. Later on, Hudson's Bay traders arrived and began fur trading alongside the French and in 1767, the first English traders came to Winnipeg. In 1881, the Canadian Pacific Railroad opened a passageway to eastern Canada, resulting to many immigrants. From 1891 to 1921, the city had grown by 154,000 people with 25,000 inhabitants in 1891, and over 179,000 inhabitants in 1921. Winnipeg has grown from having a few fur trading posts, to being the capital and largest city in Manitoba.
Evaluation
I think Winnipeg is definitely livable in, and I would love to live there. I am used to a diverse culture because I was raised in Toronto, and there seem to be many activities, festivals, and places to go to. It also seems less noisy than Toronto, but it still gives off the urban vibe. Some difficulties with living in Winnipeg would be the extreme weather and the frequent flooding. I would prefer to live in Toronto because everything is so central and easily accessible, but if I had to, I wouldn't mind living in Winnipeg temporarily.
